Day 1 of my Aredia treatment is done. We woke up early this morning (and probably will again for the rest of the week) and left just after 06:00 to beat the traffic. We hit the freeway at just after 06:00 and it was already bumper to bumper, even heading north, after the CBD. (If you remember, we now live in South Johannesburg after moving in April last year.) The traffic thinned as we headed further north and others took various off-ramps to get to their destinations. Finally we were able to pick up speed and it was like driving on a weekend afternoon.

We got to Sunninghill Hospital just after 07:20, give or take and after a few minutes, started the process of getting our details on the hospital’s computer system. This took some time and we were finally in the ward just after 08:00. I’m not sure why, but it did take them a while to get the IV sorted out, but an hour later, things were sorted and not long after, the IV was in.

The whole morning, I kept dozing off and Marc said I was snoring once or twice. I don’t know whether it was the treatment or the fact that I didn’t sleep well last night, but I have been tired the whole day. After we got home, I was playing around on the computer a bit, but ended up going to bed for a couple hours to have a nap. I just couldn’t stay awake.

I am feeling more rested now, but will probably flake out again tonight. I don’t know whether it’s mental or not, but the ache in my ribs has subsided significantly already. I’ve still got the needle and tube in my arm, ready for tomorrow’s round of treatment and that is a bit uncomfortable, but other than that, it seems to be going well.

I will keep you posted of further developments.
